“Do you know what day it is?” I murmured.

“It’s February fourteenth.”

“And…?”

A stare greeted me, followed by a slow blink.

“Never mind,” I groused.

He chuckled. “Which would you rather have, Christina? A teddy bear, or cold hard cash?”

Patrick was relaxed beside me, smiling, his pale eyes like the smooth water of a lake. I wished to God he hadn’t mentioned the money.

“Both.”
